Tides Are Real

Boat fails

Tides are real.

That should not be breaking news, and yet here we are.

Somebody tied a boat up where there was water at the time, then apparently trusted the ocean to stay put and keep doing them favors. The ocean declined.

Now the boat is up on the beach next to the dock, sitting there like a public monument to temporary thinking.

To make the whole thing even better, the yellow Sea Tow boat is heading over to deal with a problem that never needed to exist in the first place. That is usually how these stories go. The tide leaves, judgment leaves with it, and eventually somebody with a tow bill gets invited into the conversation.

This is not a freak act of nature. The water went out. That is one of the more predictable things the water does.

If you tie up in a spot that only works while the tide is doing you a favor, sooner or later you are going to find yourself parked in dry embarrassment while everybody else gets a look.

Anyway, for today’s lesson from the waterfront, tides are real.
